With more than 52,000 acres of designated wilderness land and containing one of the world's largest collections of petrified wood, Petrified Forest National Park offers a plethora of recreational activities for visitors of all ages and interests. A beautiful 28-mile drive is the best way to view the park as temperatures can get very high, but there are many hiking trails for on-foot adventures as well. The park is located in northeastern Arizona, about 80 miles east of Flagstaff and 40 miles west of the New Mexico state border.
